About The Position

UNC Hospitals Rehabilitation Services is accepting applications for a full-time Acute Care Occupational Therapist Assistant position. Supporting our Enhanced Rehabilitation program in the acute hospital setting, the OTA will provide skilled therapeutic interventions to a diverse patient population with varying acuity levels. This person will collaborate directly with the interdisciplinary team to provide exceptional patient-centered care. The selected candidate will serve as a stakeholder, assisting in the implementation and sustainment of unit-based care team models to optimize patient care outcomes and best practices. Excellent time management and communication skills are required for this fast-paced environment; clinical experience in acute care is strongly preferred. A strong work ethic and growth-oriented mindset are essential characteristics for interested applicants. The selected candidate will work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend and holiday coverage. Why UNCH? Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited two-year Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Licensed as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of North Carolina.
  • No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to various interdisciplinary team meetings to plan for patient needs, discuss family education plans, and discharge plans.
  • Documents patient treatment and progress toward goals in the medical record. Completes department records for team communication, billing, and statistics.
  • Instructs occupational therapy and occupational therapist assistant students.
  • Precepts occupational therapist assistants and evaluates the learner's competency per department guidelines.
  • Provides skilled occupational therapy treatments to a wide variety of patients. Designs activities or exercises to meet OT goals. Fabricates a wide range of splints. Teaches patients techniques and use of adaptive equipment to increase independence in activities of daily living. Uses group techniques to facilitate therapeutic groups to reach a variety of OT goals. Instructs patient and family in home techniques for discharge.
  • Participation - Contributes to quality of clinical services through attendance and participation in departmental meetings and in-services.
  • Quality-Contributes to quality of clinical services through maintenance of valid & reliable records of patient procedures & progress. Participates in quality improvement initiatives with the clinical specialist and other healthcare professionals. Participates in continuous quality improvement efforts in conjunction with the department director
