About The Position

Northwestern Medicine is making a significant investment in advancing care for patients with digestive health conditions. As part of this commitment, the Digestive Health Institute is launching a new, state-of-the-art, 20,000-square-foot Center for Advanced Endoscopy at Central DuPage Hospital. We are currently seeking a highly motivated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Interventional Gastroenterology team. The Center for Advanced Endoscopy will function at the level of an academic medical center, equipped with leading-edge technologies and procedures including third space endoscopy, endobariatrics, interventional EUS, complex ERCP, flexible robotic endoscopy, and pioneering applications of artificial intelligence in endoscopy. Patients will benefit from concierge-level care from referral through treatment, reflecting Northwestern Medicine’s core values of Patients First and Care Where You Live. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking program centered on innovation, education, and global collaboration. The center will incorporate advanced training platforms such as simulation, augmented reality, and live-streamed procedures. As an Advanced Practice Provider (APP), you will collaborate closely with internationally recognized endoscopists and a world-class clinical team. You will play a key role in both inpatient and outpatient care, including: Leading independent and collaborative clinics Piloting telemedicine initiatives Rounding on hospitalized patients Developing and implementing care plans Mentoring clinical staff You will serve as a trusted partner to patients navigating complex diagnoses, delivering compassionate, high-quality care every step of the way. Schedule: Monday- Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm. No weekend or holidays at this time; might include Saturday coverage in the future No call currently; potential future call Locations: Central DuPage Hospital (Winfield) & Delnor Hospital (Geneva) Primarily at Central DuPage Hospital Potential clinic coverage at CDH, Delnor or Naperville (Raymond Road location)

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing OR master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Acute care certification required for APRNs (inpatient experience as an NP will be considered in lieu of acute care certification)
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body as approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board. Once licensed may apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number OR Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program/Current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois.   • Privileged and credentialed through the Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office (MSO)
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation – BLS, issued by the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations in clinical area.
  • Provides direct clinical care to patients.
  • Prescribes/orders medications, therapies; orders/interprets laboratory tests, x-rays and procedures according to clinical privileges.
  • Evaluates patients to determine their need for further health care.
  • Provides comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
  • Documents in the medical record all care and education provided and/or procedures performed for which the Licensed Advanced Practice Provider is responsible.
  • Refers to other disciplines as appropriate.
  • Consultant to other disciplines in areas of expertise.
  • Integrates research based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making.
  • Exemplifies a professional image in appearance, manner and presentation.
  • Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community.
  • Maintains certifications and continuing education as required for licensure and privileging.
  • Serves as a patient advocate and role model for "Patients First".
  • Participates in unit/departmental/divisional or hospital committees/task forces as appropriate.
  • Provides comprehensive teaching strategies for patients and their families.
  • Develops and participates in programs to meet continuing education needs of staff.
  • Serves as a role model and preceptor to students.
  • Provides formal education to both internal and external groups pertinent to area of specialty.
  • Participates in quality improvement and/or research initiatives for specific patient population as appropriate.
