Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for either a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant to work as a consultant in our inpatient oncology department. The APP will work with one oncologist (who is usually on inpatient service for a week at a time) to see oncology consults within the ER as well as those admitted to the general medicine units (hospital medicine). The point of the consult is to weigh in on the patient's oncology needs, add oncology input for medication side effects or how their cancer care could be affecting their hospitalization. The intent is to keep patients and the primary team informed about oncology care updates. The APP will see between 8-10 consults per day Schedule: PART-TIME (averages 20-hours/week) - Approximately 2-3, 8-hour shifts per week, Monday - Friday; must be flexible with days. no holidays, weekends, or on-callEssential Functions: Demonstrates clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities which may include diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems.Responsible for health outcome of an assigned patient population.Confers with collaborating physician and other health professionals in area of clinical expertise.Develops appropriate educational systems for patients, families and staff in areas of expertise.Mentors graduate students in aspects of advanced practice and patient care.Actively participates in quality improvement and/or research pertinent to area of expertise.
