Operates MRI equipment and performs MRI procedures in a hospital setting. This includes preparing and positioning patients for diagnostic imaging procedures, especially high acuity ICU, ED, Stroke, and Trauma patients. The technologist assists radiologists in examinations and procedures, prepares patients with pacemakers for MRI exams by placing them in SafeScan mode, and assists Anesthesiologists with sedated patients by setting up anesthesia machines and monitors. They must maintain knowledge of MRI Compatible IV pumps for medication transfer, measure and administer contrast media, and process images for quality control and radiologist review. The role also involves routine maintenance and minor repairs of equipment, record-keeping, and general office duties. Patient interaction includes explaining procedures to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation, and adjusting immobilization devices for optimal views.
