About The Position

The Acupuncturist at Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) is responsible for providing safe and effective acupuncture treatments based on patient assessments and needs. This part-time role involves working closely with the Center for Wellness and Health Promotion team to ensure high-quality care and maintain client confidentiality. The Acupuncturist will perform initial assessments, document treatment outcomes, and communicate effectively with clients and staff.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
  • Minimum of 2 years' relevant work experience
  • Must hold and maintain a current Massachusetts state license
  • National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) Certification
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Basic computer knowledge

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, intermediate Excel skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial intake assessment to collect medical histories and general health and lifestyle information from patients.
  • Assess patients' general physical appearance; analyze physical findings and medical histories to make diagnoses according to Oriental medicine traditions.
  • Demonstrate a high level of safety and caution related to the placement, manipulation, removal, and disposal of needles during each appointment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and competency in manual stimulation (tui na, shiatsu), acupuncture with electrical stimulation, and other adjunctive therapies within the scope of licensure.
  • Evaluate treatment outcomes and recommend new or altered treatments as necessary to further promote, restore, or maintain health.
  • Interact with clients in a manner that encourages the patient's comfort in expressing needs and concerns.
  • Document presenting symptoms, treatment, and outcomes in SOAP note format after each treatment.
  • Communicate effectively with CWHP staff to maintain uniformity in procedures and consistency in the overall experience for each client.
  • Participate in meetings and organizational discussions when appropriate.
  • Maintain professional conduct and appearance, and stay up-to-date in the field.
