About the position

The Actuary Manager at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is responsible for overseeing the actuarial functions within the department, including conducting research, validating data, and making recommendations to resolve complex problems. This role involves managing staff development, coordinating across departments, and presenting key objectives to executive leadership. The Actuary Manager will also seek opportunities for innovation and process improvement while ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research and validate data to resolve complex actuarial problems.
• Manage departmental activities including performance of major actuarial functions and staff development.
• Communicate and collaborate with key business partners to present findings and recommendations.
• Plan, lead, and deliver projects utilizing complex actuarial principles and practices.
• Represent the organization on industry task forces and work groups.
• Proactively seek opportunities to innovate and develop new processes and solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field, or eight years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
• Six years of experience in roles such as Actuarial Advisor, Actuarial Lead Analyst, or related positions.
• Experience with actuarial methods and practices, including ACA rating, IBNR calculations, and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with programming languages and tools such as SQL, VBA, and Tableau.
• ASA designation and completion of all FSA exams.
• Membership in the Society of Actuaries and American Academy of Actuaries.
