This role is hybrid, requiring reporting to an Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA for at least 60% of the work week and working from home (within the continental US) for the remaining portion. Under general supervision, the Actuary III codes, parametrizes, and utilizes actuarial models to solve problems which may include: pricing, reserving/reserve testing, experience studies, business planning, reinsurance, or capital planning. The role involves analyzing output from models for reasonability and generating reports, and may include making adjustments and improvements to models or performing model review and validation. It requires applying knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculations, and developing raw data into assumption basis with which to parameterize models.

Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field
Three years of professional job-related work experience
An Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation from the society of Actuaries (SOA) is required
Commitment to continue toward Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation
Currently a candidate in or qualified to become a candidate in the Aflac Actuarial Development Program (ASA and recent FSA)

Responsibilities

Codes, parametrizes, and utilizes actuarial models to solve problems which may include: pricing, reserving/reserve testing, experience studies, business planning, reinsurance, or capital planning
Analyzes output from models for reasonability and generates reports
May make adjustments and improvements to models or perform model review and validation, when appropriate
Applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculations
Develops raw data into assumption basis with which to parameterize models
Utilizes knowledge of actuarial standards of practice and business acumen to solve challenging actuarial questions
Works with other departments (eg. product development, financial, compliance, and Japanese colleagues) to complete assignments on schedule
Reviews and analyzes statistical data including morbidity, mortality and termination experience as well as policy provisions, state regulations, and other documents
Uses understanding of standard concepts, practices, and procedures; Relies on judgment and business acumen where limited experience exists to plan and accomplish goals
Communicates the findings of actuarial work to managers and executives in an appropriate manner for business decisions to result
Aides in the representation of the department in internal and external groups for the benefit of Aflac
