About The Position

The Actuarial Intern provides support to actuarial staff, product analysts, and the AVP – Strategic Development on project work as assigned. This is an internship position with the intent of exposing the employee to actuarial concepts and developing their skill set through experiential learning. Salary Grade (6) 19.49 - 24.36 - 29.23 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Assists the actuaries in determining rates and/or loss and loss adjustment expense reserve levels. This information may be internal to the company, industry data or competitive information. Performs research on projects intended to improve risk selection, claims settlements, or general financial improvement of the company. Applies technical skills to create or enhance applications to be used in actuarial work. Shadows actuarial staff to develop an understanding of ratemaking concepts, methodologies, and responsibilities typical to the profession. Completes project work as assigned.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or related field of study
  • Intermediate computer skills including familiarity with spreadsheets and databases
  • Exposure to a statistical programming language such as R, Python, and/or SAS is a plus
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Able to effectively communicate with various audiences, including actuaries, product analysts, underwriters, IT staff, and management.
  • Advanced skills are required including coursework in calculus, linear algebra and probability/statistics.
  • Ability to understand actuarial concepts and apply logic to solve complex problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates with credit for at least one Casualty Actuarial Society exam
  • Advancement in the CAS examinations is desirable but not required.
