About The Position

Erie Insurance is offering an internship opportunity in the Actuarial & Finance Services Division for college students pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, or a related field. The internship is designed to provide professional experience in a challenging and competitive environment, with a focus on personal and professional development. Interns will work with experienced departmental staff to conduct actuarial studies for auto, property, and commercial lines of business, present findings to management, and support the work of actuarial analysts while learning the job functions. The internship will run from May 11th or May 18th, 2026, to August 7th, 2026, and includes various educational, social, and networking opportunities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university pursuing a four-year degree or master's degree full-time.
  • Completion of sophomore, junior, or senior year (graduating between spring 2026 and spring 2028).
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 required.
  • Pursuit of a bachelor's degree majoring in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in probability and statistics as demonstrated by passing the first actuarial exam preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct actuarial studies for auto, property, and commercial lines of business.
  • Assist in conducting detailed analysis of insurance programs, profitability, rating factors, reserve studies, and experience exhibits.
  • Create exhibits, reports, and charts for actuarial and reserve studies, state insurance department filings, and rate recommendations.
  • Develop a basic knowledge of ratemaking procedures used by The ERIE, competitors, and rate bureaus.
  • Write programs in SAS and Visual Basic to extract data to spreadsheet format and review data for reasonableness and accuracy.
  • Gather ERIE and industry information in response to requests and present analysis to management.
