About The Position

This position provides leadership to a department within Actuarial that provides data to the Actuarial Department and assists with analysis essential to support of the financial objectives of the Health Business Sector and the Enterprise. Requirements

  • 6+ years related work experience. Experience Details: managed care/health insurance industry experience
  • 3+ years’ direct supervisory/management experience
  • Related Bachelor’s degree or additional related equivalent work experience
  • Strong background in SAS, SQL, mainframe, and Unix
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and training to other members of the Actuarial Department
  • Ability to lead analysis teams or projects
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of major BCBSF information systems (financial, payment claims, enrollment, income and their interrelationships
  • Proficiency in testing and validation of analyses
  • Experience with developing financial analytical techniques (e.g., IBNR setting or predictive modeling)
  • Experience with provider payment strategies (e.g., capitation, care network, arrangements, DRG reimbursement)
  • Established interpersonal skills and professionalism
  • Demonstrated proficiency in software (regardless of hardware platform) to include spreadsheet, word processing products, data base manager products, user development/corporate production programs and applications
  • Proven ability to solve problems creatively and in a team-based environment
  • Proven ability to engage upper management (Directors, Vice-Presidents) on information-critical issues
  • Proven ability to influence data architecture decisions regarding the sourcing of, data modeling, and final design of Enterprise-wide Information.
  • Proven ability to engage external information companies to create benchmarking information, and research and develop new methods and tools for analysis

  • Development of departmental data
  • Ensuring data quality for Actuarial analyses
  • Assisting with architecture development and monitoring of corporate data (EDW)
  • Assisting with reserving, trend setting, and financial forecasting
