Talcott Financial Group is seeking an entry-level Actuarial Consultant to join our Actuarial Assumption and Consulting team. This role is ideal for someone with strong analytical and technical skills who is interested in applying data, programming, and actuarial concepts to support assumption development. Additionally, this role will work closely on actuarial modeling, and actionable analytics. Our selected candidate for this role will partner with actuaries, data engineers and model developers to support robust modeling analysis for data-driven business decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field
  • Work experience or internships in insurance or finance, including involvement with actuarial valuation, modeling, or pricing work is strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with large and complex datasets
  • Proficiency in at least one programming/statistical language such as Python, C++, SQL, or R
  • Familiarity with data analysis, relational databases, and data engineering tools.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, technical environment
  • Strong teamwork skills to foster an effective working relationship with multiple areas
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take ownership of all aspects of the role.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Progress toward actuarial exams is a plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Construct and carry out experience studies on mortality and policyholder behavior.
  • Collaborate with senior actuaries to develop assumptions for life insurance and annuity products.
  • Perform periodic monitoring of experience data and provide insights into emerging trends.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines, transformation processes, and reports that support actuarial models and analytics.
  • Help improve the quality, reliability, and accessibility of actuarial datasets used for reserving, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Collaborate with actuaries, system developers, and other stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver efficient solutions.
  • Employ programing tools such as Python, R, SQL to automate processes and improve efficiency.
  • Communicate findings and insights through clear, concise reports and presentations.
