About The Position

The Actuarial Analyst, Pricing Operations & Portfolio Management will play an important role in the Vantage’s Insurance business by supporting the Insurance Pricing and Portfolio Management functions. These functions, overseen by the Chief Pricing & Portfolio Actuary, are tasked with tracking, analyzing, and reporting key pricing and underwriting metrics. The Insurance Leadership Team rely on this work as they make decisions for the future of Vantage Insurance. The successful candidate will work alongside the Head of Pricing Operations & Strategy and the Chief Pricing & Portfolio Actuary to maintain and run models, tools, and processes to ensure the Pricing & Portfolio Management functions are fit for purpose and scalable. They will take ownership of established pricing operations and portfolio management work. They should have a keen attention to detail, enjoy solving problems, and proactively contribute to improving pricing operations and portfolio management. The successful candidate will show a commitment to pursuing professional credentials from the Casualty Actuarial Society through success on examinations, work experience or having studied actuarial science as part of their university major. This position will be part of the Insurance Pricing Team and will report to the Head of Pricing Operations & Strategy. The Pricing Operations & Strategy function has the Pricing Team as their first-line customers. The other members of the Pricing Team are the business unit pricing actuaries, the Head of Pricing Operations & Strategy, and the Chief Pricing & Portfolio Actuary. The Pricing Team’s core customers are the Insurance Leadership Team and the underwriting business units. We prefer this position to be filled by a candidate able to work 2-3 days per week in the West Hartford, Connecticut, office. However, we are flexible in terms of location, with both remote and in-office options available for the right candidate. The base salary expectation for this role is between $80,000 and $110,000. Actual base salary for the selected candidate may be higher commensurate with candidate experience and expectations. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field; or the equivalent in related work experience.
  • 1-4 years of actuarial experience. New university graduates with the appropriate technical skills and credits for CAS actuarial exams are encouraged to apply.
  • Two or more exams passed preferred; desire to pursue actuarial credential is required (which would be supported by Vantage).
  • Proven track record of creative problem solving and attention to detail.
  • Project work requiring scripting and programming languages is mandatory: R and SQL at a minimum.
  • Basic familiarity using Git and GitHub is required.
  • Ability to process and adapt to change in a rapid growth new-company environment. Vantage associates are expected to be curious, thrifty, and resourceful to manage through the unknowns of growing a specialty (re)insurance business from the ground up.

Nice To Haves

  • Excel VBA experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Head of Pricing Operations & Strategy in all established pricing operations including:
  • Collection and reporting of pricing metrics.
  • Review of pricing model maturity.
  • Pricing data collection, validation, and reporting.
  • Pricing model documentation.
  • Integration and deployment of completed pricing models.
  • Assist Chief Pricing & Portfolio Actuary with portfolio management:
  • Day-to-day stewardship of portfolio management dashboards and other products.
  • Ensure that data is correct and promptly fixed when incorrect.
  • With the Data Team, design and prototype new tools for portfolio management.
  • Analyze trends in pricing metrics and price adequacy across the Insurance segment.
  • Oversee annual loss ratio planning on behalf of the business unit pricing actuaries.
  • Centralize pricing data reporting for reinsurance placements, regulatory data calls, and similar exercises.
  • Take on other ad hoc work and projects and time permits and other the direction of other members of the Insurance Pricing Team.
