About The Position

The Activity Treatment Specialist is responsible for providing daily care, counsel and supervision to the adolescents living within the VanAndel-Summit residential home. This program provides services for substance abuse recovery for male and female adolescents ranging in age from 12-18 years old. Additionally, youll mentor clients, teach staff how to engage in therapeutic and fun activities, and create a warm, loving home for teens who need a refuge. The teens who come to live at Wedgwood often have little sense of what a loving home feels like. As a Wedgwood Activity Treatment Specialist, you can help instill the compassion, self-worth, and optimism that our residents need to overcome their trauma, addiction, and behavioral health issues. Youll work alongside our expert clinical care team to mentor residents, building relationships utilizing trauma-informed care techniques, helping them develop healthy life skills, and teaching teens to use their voices for position outcomes. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college as well as one year of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Or- High school diploma with two years of related experience required.
  • Prior experience working with adolescents with in providing activity treatment services is required.
  • For transportation purposes, must have a valid drivers license
  • Subscription to Wedgwood Christian Services statement of faith and agreement with the goals, purpose, and objectives of the agency.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with emotional/behavioral disorders is preferred.
  • Possess demonstrated skills in various leisure time activities (i.e. arts and crafts, music, sports, camping, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize activities on a weekly basis for the residential program.
  • Responsible to lead and participate in planned activities, when on duty, providing residents with clear and understandable directives.
  • Provide directives for Youth Treatment staff during activities, or leave directions for Youth Treatment staff to lead activities in their absence.
  • Under the direction of the Residential Clinician implement interventions, and report on progress for individual clients treatment programs, as applies to wellness.
  • Teach and model healthy behavior and interactions patterns during activities.
  • Teaching life skill related classes and/or assist in leading group sessions designed to enhance cooperation and interaction skills of clients.
  • Interview residents concerning their leisure interests and skills, and assist them in pursuing these interests.
  • Plan and implement activities which include family members that promote interaction, problem solving and positive experiences as appropriate.
  • Provide support, encouragement, and role-modeling for the youth in the home; build meaningful, supportive relationships.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of treatment interventions for youth in the program; this includes the knowledge of and timely use of crisis intervention techniques, and proper completion of all required paperwork (i.e. Safety Logs, Behavior Management Reports, etc.)
  • Provide immediate, basic first aid and consult medical personnel, if necessary, for any injuries sustained.
