Location Overview:The Crisis Service and Diagnostic Center provides individualized, short-term (up to 90 days) stabilization supports a maximum of sixteen (16) adults aged 18 and above who have intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) and/or co-occurring behavioral health (BH) diagnoses adults with. These individuals may be experiencing psychiatric crises or significant emotional/behavioral challenges that threaten their ability to remain in their current home environment. Position Overview: The Activity Therapist plays a vital role in crisis and treatment settings by improving individuals’ social, physical, and emotional well-being through structured and therapeutic activities. This position is responsible for developing and implementing recreational therapy plans, monitoring individual progress, supporting participation in activities, and collaborating with families and interdisciplinary teams to support treatment goals. Location/Schedule: 750 Hazel Street, Macon, GA – Monday-Friday, 8am-5:30pm or 3pm-11pm.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Eligible for certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS); certification preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, and/or behavioral disorders required.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering social and emotional interventions.
  • Knowledge of agency standard operating procedures related to record maintenance, retention, and security.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal confidentiality laws and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate confidentiality and privacy policies effectively.
  • Knowledge of agency-specific evaluation tools, documentation standards, and electronic health record systems.
  • Understanding of clinical and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate individuals’ recreational, social, and activity needs, preferences, and abilities to design meaningful and therapeutic activities that promote emotional and physical wellness.
  • Assist with the organization and implementation of therapeutic and recreational programs in collaboration with the Program Director.
  • Prepare, implement, and evaluate daily activity programming.
  • Gather information through interviews, observation, record review, and interdisciplinary team collaboration.
  • Develop and implement individualized and group activity plans that promote personal growth, social interaction, coping skills, and stress reduction.
  • Create monthly activity calendars that align with individual needs and program goals, focusing on life skills, coping strategies, and social skill development.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to ensure activities reflect individuals’ interests, strengths, and clinical needs.
