The team ensures patients receive high-quality, personalized care for mental health and behavioral challenges, offering inpatient psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, and outpatient counseling and therapies. The Activity Therapist Assistant plays a crucial role in enhancing the therapeutic environment within a behavioral facility by leading and participating in recreational activities designed to promote physical, emotional, and social well-being for individuals and groups. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the assistant will implement structured recreational programs that align with therapeutic goals, fostering engagement, skill development, and community integration among clients.

Requirements

  • Valid Missouri Driver's License
  • Experience in a mental health setting (preferably with adolescents), and knowledge of child/adolescent growth and development and the ability to relate to adolescents with substance abuse or mental health problems.
  • Knowledge of community resources and recreation principles and practice.
  • Experience in coordinating, supervising, and participating in therapeutic group activities such as physical education, leisure education, adventure therapy, arts and crafts, ect
  • Must be able to participate in the scheduled physical activities.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Recreation Activities: Lead and assist in a variety of therapeutic recreational activities, including arts and crafts, sports, games, and outdoor excursions, tailored to meet the diverse needs of clients.
  • Individual and Group Sessions: Conduct both individual and group therapy sessions, encouraging participation, fostering teamwork, and facilitating social interactions among clients.
  • Assessment and Planning: Collaborate with Program Director to assess client needs and preferences, contributing to the development of individualized treatment plans and setting achievable goals.
  • Monitor Progress: Track client participation and progress in activities, providing feedback to the therapeutic team and adjusting programs as necessary to optimize engagement and outcomes.
  • Promote Safety and Well-Being: Ensure a safe and supportive environment during all activities, adhering to facility policies and procedures, and addressing any behavioral challenges appropriately.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of client participation, progress, and any incidents, contributing to ongoing assessments and treatment planning.
