About The Position

The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. We are two of New York City’s leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children, youth and families, homeless individuals, and older adults through-out Manhattan and New York City. We work every day for a fair and just society where all people have the opportunity to make choices that lead to better lives for themselves and their families. The Isaacs Center focuses primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational. Goddard Riverside Community Center is working in collaboration with the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development and the New York City Housing Authority to provide evening teen center programming at Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center on the Upper Westside. The Teen Center @ Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center is located within the Amsterdam Addition Housing Development and across from the Amsterdam Houses. The NYCHA TEP at Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center is seeking a dynamic individual to provide specialized activities to youth including dance, art, technology, culinary and discussion based. The Activity Specialist is an integral part of providing youth with activities that promote creativity and self-expression amongst the youth.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/ GED; some college preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with a multi-cultural youth population
  • Must clear the organizational background check
  • Strong leadership development with knowledge of specific specialty, dance, art, technology, etc.
  • Demonstrated strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs specifically word, excel, access and outlook
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, walking –include participating in program activities with program participants

Responsibilities

  • Provide Direct Service to Teen Program Youth Members
  • Create projects with groups of middle school & high school youth and young adults, in evening activities
  • Facilitate interactive workshops designed in specialized activities such as science, technology, engineering, dance, visual arts, coding, performing arts and other specialized fields.
  • Work with staff to enroll, engage and retain teen and young adult participants
  • Maintain a safe learning environment
  • Serve as a positive and engaging role model for participants
  • Always maintain a high level of flexibility and professionalism
  • Enforce program rules, promote reflection and consequences for infractions
  • Maintain attendance records for all facilitated activities
  • Participate in program planning and assessment
  • Assist with data entry
  • Attend supervision meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
