About The Position

The Activity and Residential Care Coordinator position is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic, recreational, and person-centered activities tailored to residents with complex needs, including non-verbal children and those with histories of trauma, such as neglect, physical or sexual abuse, and exposure to violence while working within a trauma-informed framework. The coordinator designs structured activities that foster emotional regulation, build social skills, and encourage safe expression for youth with frequent behavioral outbursts or limited verbal communication. The role also involves scheduling and coordinating all resident medical, dental, and psychiatric appointments and ensuring timely and safe transportation to and from these appointments. The coordinator collaborates closely with clinical, nursing, and direct care staff to support continuity of care and promote a nurturing, healing environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED. Associate degree or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children, adolescents, or adults in a behavioral health, special education, group home, or residential care setting.
  • Experience coordinating activities for youth with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, or intellectual disabilities.
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills with clinical and non-clinical staff
  • Familiarity with non-verbal communication strategies (e.g., PECS, AAC devices).
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and eligibility to drive company vehicles.
  • Must complete all mandatory training, including trauma-informed care, HIPAA, and mandated reporting, upon hire and annually thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead daily therapeutic, recreational, and enrichment activities that are developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and person-centered.
  • Adapt activities to meet the needs of non-verbal, sensory-sensitive, or cognitively impaired children and adolescents.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that supports self-expression, emotional regulation, and social skill development.
  • Maintain a monthly calendar of structured programming for each unit or age group and communicate effectively with the Lead Therapist and Operations Manager to initiate daily programs and activities.
  • Research new ideas for programs and activities, taking into consideration participants’ suggestions.
  • Schedule all resident medical, dental, vision, and psychiatric appointments in collaboration with nursing and case management teams.
  • Maintain accurate appointment logs and communicate schedules to all relevant departments in a timely manner.
  • Safely transport residents to and from off-site medical appointments and approved outings using agency vehicles.
  • Ensure residents are supervised and supported during transportation and appointment times.
  • Conduct vehicle safety checks and maintain cleanliness and compliance with agency transportation policies.
  • Complete and maintain documentation related to activity attendance, progress notes, incident reports, and appointment logs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to report on resident participation and behavior during activities or appointments.
