About The Position

Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley is an organization driven by empowerment and full inclusion, aiming to empower those with disadvantages and disabilities to improve their quality of life. As one of the largest employers in the region, with over 600 associates in retail stores alone, GESMV offers over 40 programs and services, including job readiness and assistive technology. The organization provides both part-time and full-time positions with various schedules. The Activity & Personal Care Aide position focuses on providing supervision and assistance to participants in a GESMV Program. Key responsibilities include maintaining participants’ safety, well-being, dignity, and general involvement in day-to-day activities, while also encouraging and promoting independent living skills. The role involves assisting with planning and implementing recreational, social, and therapeutic activities in line with the program's mission.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or a GED required.
  • Employee must maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to Goodwill's liability insurance provider.
  • Must maintain the ability to pass a criminal background check, physical and random drug screens.
  • Demonstrate initiative, as well as, the ability to work cohesively within a team.
  • Ability to show care, warmth, patience, and nurturing to the target population.
  • Must be able to follow through with projects in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, general business instructions, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively with participants, caregivers and the general public.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with daily operational challenges with a calm demeanor.

Nice To Haves

  • STNA preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with physically, mentally, emotionally impaired and socially isolated adults and seniors preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff in following through with programming for the participants and assessing program needs.
  • Assist in providing appropriate self-help skills, as needed.
  • Assist in transportation, bathroom and lunch transitions, as needed.
  • Assist in ordering participants meals: maintain special diet/needs listing.
  • Assist with maintenance of required charts/logs.
  • Assist in general cleaning of activity/program areas (e.g.: sanitizing tables, taking out trash, cleaning utensils and other duties as needed).
  • Assist in providing appropriate social, recreational, and therapeutic activities for participants.
  • Assist with maintenance of daily attendance and van rosters to assure all elements are completed.
  • Assist in scheduling transportation.
  • Maintain safe and secure physical environment for participants.
  • Maintain all rules and regulations regarding confidentiality and privacy of participants and family.
  • Attend all workshops, staff meetings and In-Service training as required by the State and the program.
  • Comply with all Agency policies, procedures and safety standards and ensure safety training throughout areas and maintain same to meet CARF, OSHA, Department of Labor and other regulatory standards.
