About The Position

SCOPE OF POSITION: Design and facilitate an age-appropriate outdoor education plan for campers that exposes them to new experiences that will develop leadership and outdoor skills. Camp Kuratli at Trestle Glen Mission Statement: The Salvation Army Camp Kuratli at Trestle Glen will be a Christian sanctuary of rest, discovery, and growth for the neediest children in Oregon and Southern Idaho.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Preferred valid Driver’s License.
  • 2 seasons of summer camp experience or 1 year in equivalent work required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have a Valid or Capable of obtaining Oregon Food Handlers card.
  • Have a Valid or Capable of obtaining AED, Red Cross or equivalent CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Be a Christian with a strong, demonstrative commitment to following Jesus Christ, and biblical principles, who is enthusiastic, energetic, and creative in spiritual leadership.
  • Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Detail-oriented, Self-starter, Team Player.
  • Ability to diffuse stressful situations with staff and campers.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be comfortable working with a high degree of independence.
  • Possess leadership skills, with the ability to supervise, care for, and provide necessary guidance for staff and campers 24 hours a day.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate well in the English language.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards at all times.

  • Physical ability to respond to a variety of situations. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

Responsibilities

  • Foster and nurture Christian faith and discipleship in visible, fruitful ways to, and with staff and campers.
  • Provide supervision, support, and motivation to all staff.
  • Lead a weekly devotion with staff assigned to your care.
  • Coordinate with the Nurse and leadership team for possible medical transportation as needed. May be asked to accompany hospital transport of campers or staff.
  • Turn in all camper-related forms promptly, such as, but not limited to, seeker forms, incident forms, safety reports, Notice of Concern, and Observation Logs.
  • Provide a written weekly evaluation of staff under your care, outlining their strengths and struggles, to the Program Assistant.
  • Set a good example for campers and others including language, cleanliness, punctuality, sportsmanship, and table manners.
  • Responsible for routine daily cleanliness of public and personal spaces.
  • Lead and/or assist in Staff Snack Evening, including but not limited to, food preparation, distribution and clean-up.
  • Participate and/or assist in all summer camp programs as requested e.g., chapel, staff meetings, campfire, camp-wide games, night-watch, free-time, electives, rise and shine duty, etc.
  • May be required to serve as Break Day Supervisor for staff.
  • Last-day clean-up you will be responsible for the cleanliness of all living spaces and program areas under your assigned care.
  • Enforce respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers, and campers.
  • Enforce adherence to camp and Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Ensure and provide supervision and physical/emotional safety for campers and staff.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Leadership.
  • Manage and develop the use of the pond, hiking/creek walk trails, and the nature center on camp by delivering safe, fun, and progressive program activities.
  • Maintain a safe environment and safe programs as established by camp policies.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate different free-time, cabin activity, electives, free time options utilizing Camp Kuratli’s outdoor facilities and equipment.
  • Ensure the staff involved in activities within areas of responsibility are appropriately qualified and trained.
  • Schedule and coordinate resources for electives, cabin activity, free time, and Campwide game.
  • Ensure that all staff and campers know and follow safety procedures.
  • Communicate with the Service Crew Coordinator to make sure supplies and areas are set up.
  • Work with lifeguards to implement water activities.
  • Teach and monitor the proper use of equipment.
  • Conduct a daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  • Ensure all equipment and elements remain in good working order and report issues immediately to the Program Director.
  • Coordinate use of Challenge Course by ensuring logs are completed and equipment tested and verified to be safe to use. Will work with contracted vendor on scheduling and/or issues.
