The Activity Coordinator role is a temporary backfill to provide coverage while a current employee is on leave.

Requirements

  • Activity Coordinator’s Certificate or BA in recreation, psychology, gerontology or related field plus one year experience leading recreation programs for the elderly, (or equivalent combination of education/experience.)
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • One year of professional work or volunteer experience with frail elders with dementia and/or age related issues.
  • Interest and willingness to work in a multilingual, multicultural environment.
  • Fluency in English required; second language helpful.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other related programs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver, and reposition 35 lbs.
  • Ability to reach, bend and walk
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

Nice To Haves

  • Strong leadership skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Builds within the Day Center a sense of community and a warm social atmosphere in which the participants are able to identify a support system.
  • Plans, prepares and leads large and small scale group activities which include but are not limited to exercises, news discussions, arts and crafts, music, cultural groups, cognitive groups, and community outings.
  • Plans all parties, holiday and birthday celebrations, and secures entertainment and community resources in consultation with the Site Manager.
  • Encourages isolated participants towards group participation through one-on-one interactions.
  • Assists with all general activities at the center to meet participants’ needs when necessary including personal care, transportation, & meal service, as assigned.
  • Assists in preparing, distributing and posting monthly calendar of activities.
  • Assists with determining equipment/supply needs and participates in budget planning and purchasing of supplies.
  • Conducts and documents client recreation assessments, treatment plans and quarterly re-evaluations as assigned, and attend appropriate meetings to present them to the team.
