About The Position

The Wyoming Retirement Center is seeking a qualified individual to fill the part-time position of Activities Aide. This part-time position assists the Activities Department in the dementia unit, helping WRC's community members maintain their highest quality of life by providing various activities based on each person's preferences, needs, and capabilities. Within the first year of employment, this person will commit to completing and passing both a Certified Nurse Aide class and the State certification exam for a Certified Nurse Aide. The Wyoming Retirement Center will pay for all CNA class and certification exam expenses. Requirements

  • Knowledge of skills necessary to work with others.
  • Knowledge of good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of abilities for enthusiasm and excitement about scheduled activities.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of skills required to prioritize work and to be flexible.
  • Knowledge of CPR and basic First Aid.
  • Knowledge and use of good body mechanics.
  • Knowledge of skills required to communicate with the elderly and impaired while being caring and compassionate.
  • Associate's Degree (typically in Healthcare)
  • No prior experience required
  • CNA Certification obtained within twelve (12) months of hire
  • 1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Human Services)
  • CNA Certification obtained within twelve (12) months of hire
  • Work holidays, evenings, and/or weekends as scheduled
  • Be physically active throughout the day (i.e. walking, stooping, bending, lifting)
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
  • For the health and protection of the persons we care, for annual influenza vaccination is required.
  • Employees of this facility will be expected to follow all rules and requirements established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regarding COVID-19.
  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
  • Pre-employment drug testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions (direct patient care positions are considered safety-sensitive). Drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on any position if reasonable suspicion exists.
  • Voluntary separation of employment from the Wyoming Retirement Center within the first year after the CNA certification exam date will require the employee to reimburse all expenses to the Wyoming Retirement Center.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference may be given to those who have experience working with persons who have mental health, dementia, and medical needs.
  • Preference may also be given to applicants who have their Wyoming CNA certification.
  • Applicants who have completed and passed a Nursing Assistant Course must pass the State of Wyoming Certified Nurse Assistant exam within 120 days of hire.
  • Within the first year of employment, applicants must complete and pass a Certified Nurse Aide class and the State certification exam for a Certified Nurse Aide. The Wyoming Retirement Center will pay for all expenses for the CNA class and certification exam.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts individual and group activities in the men's and women's dementia units.
  • Documents resident activities and participation.
  • Communicates changes to the Activities Director.
  • Assists Activities staff with various group activities such as Bingo, crafts, bowling, etc.
  • Setting up activities and gathering residents to participate.
  • Cleaning the kitchen and other activity equipment (i.e. popcorn machine, snow cone machine).
  • Assists Activities staff on resident outings.
