About The Position

This position is located in the Gallatin Rest Home and is responsible for coordinating and providing recreational and social activities to residents, including exercise, games, celebrations, and outings. The position also provides resident transportation to and from appointments and performs related support functions. The Activity Aide - Van Driver reports to the Rest Home Activities Coordinator and does not supervise other employees.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the physical, emotional, and mental needs, behaviors, and abilities of elderly individuals.
  • Knowledge of activity planning, charting requirements, and facility procedures.
  • Skill in organizing and leading individual and group recreational activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with residents, families, volunteers and staff.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and transport residents securely.
  • The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and some related work experience.
  • This position is designated as a "testable" safety-sensitive position under Section 526, Workplace Drug and Alcohol Policy. The employee is subject to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing under the policy.
  • As a condition of hire, the final candidate will be required to successfully pass a criminal history check and background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Meets daily with the Activity Coordinator to discuss scheduled activities and transportation plans.
  • Plans, sets up, and coordinates daily recreational activities for Rest Home residents. Activities may include music and sing-alongs, games, pet visits, sensory stimulation, exercise, bingo, birthday and seasonal celebrations, crafts, and other programs that promote residents' physical, emotional, social, and mental well-being.
  • Adjusts schedules and adapts activities as needed based on resident interest and ability, special requests, or unanticipated circumstances.
  • Escorts residents to and from activities and transports residents within the facility and throughout the community for planned events or appointments.
  • Conducts one-on-one visits with residents to deliver or read mail, facilitate pet visits, and provide companionship and social interaction.
  • Observes residents during activities, documenting attendance, engagement, duration, and response in accordance with facility charting requirements.
  • Reviews residents' individual care plans and care conference notes to remain informed of changes in dietary restrictions, care needs, or recommendations for activity participation.
  • Cleans and sanitizes equipment, materials, and activity areas following use.
  • Assists residents in preparing for transportation (e.g., coats, wheelchairs, foot pedals, etc.).
  • Ensures the safety of residents during transportation by properly securing wheelchairs and safety restraints.
  • Operates the Rest Home van in compliance with all traffic laws and safe driving practices, adjusting for current road and weather conditions.
  • Collects and organizes documentation required for residents' appointments.
  • Communicate transportation schedules and departure times to staff and residents as needed.
  • Reports any vehicle safety or maintenance issues promptly to the appropriate staff.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the van, both inside and out, ensures the vehicle is fueled, and verifies registration and insurance are current.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by the supervisor, including participation in special projects, filling in for other staff when needed, and attending training sessions.
  • In the event the County Commission proclaims a local emergency due to an actual or threatened disaster (e.g., earthquake, fire, flood, riot, etc.), County employees may be required to provide services during the emergency and subsequent recovery period.
