The position involves creating and implementing resident activities and events, managing activity staff schedules, and coordinating volunteer staffing and activities.

Requirements

  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Two years experience in this field preferred.
  • Knowledge of working with a wide variety of resident demographics.
  • Experience in social services or creative activities.
  • Minimum of one year previous leadership/management experience preferred.
  • Eligibility for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional by a recognized accrediting body when working in a skilled, long term care facility.
  • Successful completion of an accredited training program approved by state preferred.
  • Current Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification or currently enrolled as a student in a healthcare related program preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
  • Must be medically qualified to perform the essential driving functions of this position as per Sanford Driving Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and views resident care plans around activities.
  • Completes activity assessments and Minimum Data Set (MDS) questions as required.
  • Reports problems, concerns and information to leadership in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Communicates department activities and information to employees.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strives to improve the quality of life for the residents by providing appropriate, meaningful activities and interventions on a one-on-one and/or group basis.
  • Administers the monthly activity calendar.
  • Regularly elicits residents input into activity planning and keeps activities well organized and upbeat.
  • Partakes in activities such as fishing, nature walks, pet therapy, music therapy and others.
  • Assists with simple nursing procedures and transporting residents to and from rooms.
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities such as developing and motivating people.
  • Maintains strong critical thinking skills and problem solving skills.
  • Prioritizes responsibilities while working autonomously.
  • Plans and oversees the utilization of resources and designs of work processes.
