About the position

Hawthorne House has been providing exceptional care to the Freeport, Mid-Coast and surrounding communities. Hawthorne House is a leading provider of skilled nursing care, skilled rehabilitation, memory-impaired living, and assisted living. Under the ownership of First Atlantic Healthcare, Hawthorne House follows in First Atlantic's long reputation for excellence in Long Term Care. This role is Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Provide opportunities for entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and expression for residents.
  • Fulfill basic psychological, social, and spiritual needs of residents.
  • Plan, organize, and direct a program of activities available to all residents of the facility.
  • Assist physically, emotionally, and cognitively impaired individuals and families in exploring appropriate hobbies and leisure activities.
  • Work as part of the facility leadership team and report to the facility Administrator.

Requirements

  • Skill at working with individuals who have cognitive, physical, or sensory disabilities.
  • Practical knowledge of how an Activity Department functions in a nursing facility.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with a high level of energy and enthusiasm.
  • Experience in working with volunteers and ability to organize and develop a volunteer program.
  • Organization, documentation, and implementation of detailed programs.
  • Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility.

Nice-to-haves

  • Degree and certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist, music therapist, or art therapist.
  • Certified activity coordinator by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals.
  • Two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the past five years, with one year being full-time in a resident activities program in a health care setting.
  • Prior completion of a state-approved training course, or willingness to complete a state-approved training course within six months of employment.
  • Excellent creative and communication skills.
