About The Position

Memory Care Activities Assistant- Assisted LivingFull Time 32 Hours11:00am-7:30pm (including Saturdays) Notre Dame Healthcare- Du Lac Assisted Living is seeking a compassionate and energetic Memory Care Activities Assistant to join our Assisted Living. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about working with seniors, particularly those with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The Memory Care Activities Assistant will support the development and implementation of engaging activities that enhance the quality of life for residents in our memory care unit. This position requires creativity, patience, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with residents and their families.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will be self-directed, and a self-starter.
  • Experience with folks living with dementia is a must.
  • The ability to work as part of a dynamic and diverse interdisciplinary team is required.
  • Flexibility and creativity with approaches and programming are required.
  • The ability to utilize a wide range of tools/modalities in facilitating programming, including technology, is needed.
  • Creativity, caring, patience, resourcefulness and ability to adapt efficiently yet compassionately to variable needs of the residents living with dementia are necessary.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage residents in meaningful ways.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience, empathy, and understanding when working with seniors, especially those with memory loss or behavioral challenges.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills to adapt activities for individuals with varying levels of cognitive abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain a positive, proactive attitude.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and record-keeping.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Skilled Nursing or Assisted Living experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in memory care or working with individuals with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or other cognitive impairments is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of daily activities and programs tailored to residents' needs and abilities.
  • Support the memory care unit in creating a warm, supportive, and engaging environment that promotes social interaction, cognitive stimulation, and emotional well-being.
  • Lead individual or group activities such as arts and crafts, music therapy, exercise sessions, games, sensory stimulation, and reminiscence therapy.
  • Observe and document residents' responses to activities and report any significant changes in behavior to the Memory Care Activities Director and team.
  • Provide one-on-one support to residents who may need assistance or encouragement to participate in activities.
  • Collaborate with other team members, including nursing and care staff, to ensure residents' overall care needs are met.
  • Assist with resident transportation to and from activities, including in common areas and outdoor spaces.
  • Support family members by providing updates on activities and engaging them in opportunities for involvement.
  • Ensure a safe and clean environment by maintaining activity supplies, equipment, and spaces used for activities.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines for memory care residents.
