About The Position

The ACT/OTP Coordinator is a rewarding position focused on training and mentoring at-risk youth. This role involves counseling students in various aspects of their lives, including personal and social development, vocational and educational training. The coordinator monitors students' progress and assists them in achieving their educational and career goals, while also connecting them with necessary community services for a successful transition from school to work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, including 15 semester hours of Social Sciences or related area.
  • One-year experience in a counseling capacity or related field.
  • Valid State driver’s license in the state of employment with acceptable driving record preferred.
  • Ability to compose descriptive reports and implement program activities.
  • Ability to verbally direct individuals and groups and remedy dysfunctional behavior.
  • Ability to intervene with students in crisis with aggression control/safe physical management restraint techniques.
  • Sound knowledge of counseling techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to effectively relate to trainee population.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Ability to operate office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel students in all aspects of center life, including personal and social development, vocational and educational training.
  • Monitor students’ progress, performance, and attendance for off-center trades.
  • Obtain Training Achievement Records and Progress and Performance Reports from off-center training sites.
  • Continuously assess and evaluate students assigned to them on both formal and informal levels.
  • Assist students in continuing their education or entering into additional training, and connect them with community services necessary for successful transition from school to work.
  • Help students set short and long-term goals, identify strengths and career challenges, and resolve personal issues affecting career readiness.
  • Submit written student reports/evaluations as needed to outside agencies, referrals to Mental Health Consultant, Review Boards, or at the Center Director’s request.
  • Monitor each class on a weekly basis, conferring with instructors, counselors, and administrators as appropriate.
