About The Position

Sanford Clinic Surgical Associates (SCSA) is seeking a Fellowship Trained BC/BE Surgical Critical Care Surgeon to join its experienced FACS surgeons and advanced practice providers. SCSA has the largest and most experienced group of general surgeons in South Dakota. Experienced candidates preferred but new graduates will also be considered. The physician will cover Surgical Critical Care Service and Acute Care Surgery/Trauma Surgery Service. The position requires the candidate to be Board Eligible/Board Certified and Fellowship Trained in Surgical Critical Care. The SICU is located within Sanford USD Medical Center, with a Surgical Center Clinic attached to the hospital. The facility is a Level I Verified Adult & Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, and the surgeon will work with and teach Surgical Residents/Advanced Practice Clinicians (Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners).

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree
  • Fellowship Trained in Surgical Critical Care
  • Board Eligible/Board Certified
  • Active involvement in the clinical aspects of General Surgery
  • Demonstrated performance of at least 100 procedures in the past 12 months
  • Successful completion of a hospital affiliated surgical residency program or a clinical fellowship of at least five years’ duration accredited by the ACGME, AOA, or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada
  • Certification by the appropriate specialty board of the ABMS, AOA, or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center
  • Teaching experience with Surgical Residents or Advanced Practice Clinicians

Responsibilities

  • Cover Surgical Critical Care Service and Acute Care Surgery/Trauma Surgery Service
  • Provide pre-, intra-, and postoperative care and perform surgical procedures for adolescents and adults
  • Correct or treat various conditions, illnesses, and injuries of the alimentary tract, abdomen and its contents, breast, skin, soft tissue, head and neck, endocrine system, and minor extremity surgery
  • Provide for the on-call emergent/urgent needs of the pediatric and pre-adolescent surgical patient
  • Work with and teach Surgical Residents and Advanced Practice Clinicians
