About The Position

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or the Manager of Spiritual Health and Education, the ACPE Educator is responsible for the educational supervision of CPE residents and interns. The ACPE Educator is an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) trained Educator in progress to receive the ACPE National Faculty Distinction. The ACPE Educator is at minimum in Phase II of the CEC (Certified Educator Candidate) process and has professional experience working within a complex academic healthcare system. Responsible for performing job duties and implementing the mission, vision and goals of the Spiritual Health and Education Department and Tampa General Hospital.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Divinity or equivalent field.
  • Successful completion of 4 Units of CPE (Internship I, Residency II-IV) with an accredited ACPE site.
  • Successful completion of ACPE Certified Educator Training.
  • Ordination and/or endorsement by an acknowledged ecclesiastical body.
  • Board Certification by one or more certifying agencies (e.g. Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), etc.).
  • The ACPE Educator is in progress to receive the ACPE National Faculty Distinction.
  • Previous experience in ministry and five (5) years of healthcare-based chaplaincy experience.
  • At minimum of those, two (2) years in clinical chaplaincy within a large, complex academic medical setting.
  • Hospital-based positions require previous healthcare experience in the appropriate pastoral care area such as mental health, women’s services, trauma, pediatrics, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Plans process and prepares for material needed for continued accreditation by ACPE.
  • Assists in ensuring CPE handbooks are reviewed annually and are specific for programs of Level I, II and Supervisory CPE to ensure compliance with ACPE requirements and standards.
  • Develops and works closely with the Professional Advisory Group (PAG) in program evaluation and development.
  • Under the guidance of the Supervisor of CPE or the Manager of Spiritual Health and Education, provides day-to-day leadership and direction to CECs, residents and interns in the CPE program.
  • Independently acquires, processes and reports requested data to the Reimbursement department regarding Medicare Reimbursement.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships and or communications with other CPE centers and CPE supervisors in Florida, seminaries and judicatories.
  • Assists the Supervisor of CPE in managing the recruitment, evaluation and scheduling of CECs, residents and interns in the CPE program.
  • Works collaboratively with chaplains who provide mentoring to CPE residents and interns.
  • Acts as a resource for ongoing professional development of chaplains.
  • Maintains a clinical presence on assigned clinical units.
  • Provides On-Call coverage to the department to include crisis management, scheduling adjustments, support for chaplains and disaster management roles as needed.
