About The Position

The Clinical Education department is looking for a new ACLS, CPR Instructor to support training UPMC's staff which includes physician's, residents, nurses, and other staff support across all 7 hospitals. Will support nursing education, specialty courses, and simulations. Collaboration is essential in this role. This position will travel within the Central PA region up to 4 times a month, depending on the needs of the 7 major hospitals in Central. Reliable transportation is a must. Schedule: Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., with some flexibility. No major holidays.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an AMA/CAAHEP-accredited Paramedic Training Program preferred or Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing and licensed as an RN in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or a bachelor's degree in the Health or Science field.
  • 1 year of experience Preferred.
  • One year as a BCLS Instructor preferred.
  • One year as an ACLS Instructor preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Incorporate leading/evidence-based practice in quality/safety into everyday work.

  • Identify processes/systems that could lead to inefficient practices, unsafe conditions, errors or adverse events.
  • Avoid shortcuts to ensure quality and safety measures are not circumvented.
  • Encourage patient and family involvement in processes involving patient safety.
  • Speak up with other service partners to ensure high quality and safety.
  • Report serious events/incidents per policy.
  • Process course records and fees for all courses, internal and external, that are conducted.
  • Plan, coordinate, instruct, and follow up on courses as prescribed by individual agencies, according to department needs, to include, but not be limited to, BCLS, AED, ACLS, PALS, and First Aid courses.
  • Provide inventory control of course-related textbooks and support materials.
  • Actively practice behaviors associated with SH Service Excellence expectations.

  • Provide the best C.A.R.E. for our patients no matter what.
  • Know and follow all organizational/departmental policies/procedures.
  • Maintain records for all instructors within the CTC structure.
  • Maintain mannequins and educational equipment in working order and in accordance with sanitation guidelines.
  • Coordinate and manage the delivery of Advance Cardiac Life Support, BCLS, Pediatric Advance Life Support, AED, First Aid courses and other AHA programs as directed.
  • Assume responsibility for personal development and education.
  • Provide Quality Assessment and continuing education for all instructors within the CTC structure.
  • Demonstrate competency in the assessment, range of treatment, and knowledge of growth and development as it relates to the age of patients being treated.
  • Promote educational programs to healthcare professionals and public, as well as Industrial First Aid.
  • Provide input to the Director, Prehospital Services/Emergency Preparedness for the management of the programs.
