About The Position

The City of Anaheim Public Works Department is seeking an Accounting Technician to support the Administrative and Financial Services Division. This role involves performing specialized, technical, and complex clerical accounting work, including the preparation, review, and maintenance of financial and statistical records. The Accounting Technician will handle various tasks such as running financial reports, processing purchasing statements, preparing journal entries, assisting with payroll, and performing general clerical duties.

Requirements

  • Extensive responsible double entry accounting experience, preferably with municipal accounting.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and terminology.
  • Ability to analyze fiscal data and draw logical conclusions.
  • Experience with billing and collection of claims.
  • Proficiency in using advanced accounting record keeping procedures and financial spreadsheets.

  • Experience with grants, contracts/agreements, and billing and cost analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Run reports from financial systems to create Excel spreadsheets for grants and contract reports.
  • Process purchasing/credit card statements.
  • Prepare journal entries and assist with payroll.
  • Audit, verify, resolve, balance, and check work performed by accounting clerical personnel.
  • Reconcile ledgers, journals, accounting records, and reports with control figures.
  • Prepare special and recurring schedules and reports, such as financial schedules and reports, expenditure reports, and budget data.
  • Compute and prepare payments for contractual services.
  • Balance cash amounts received against collections report and amounts paid against invoices.
  • Contact delinquent receivable customers and arrange for payment of overdue accounts.
  • Compile data for customer inquiries into invoices, payments, and collections.
  • Maintain logs and prepare accounting worksheets; compute and allocate interest received and receivable for each fund.
  • Collect and account for money; maintain and control cash drawer.
  • Maintain and update online time payroll distribution system.
  • Process complex purchase power bills and work with online work order systems as required.
  • File materials into established files and distribute reports to departments.
  • Proofread complex accounting materials for accuracy and compile information for statistical reports.
