About The Position

The Accounting Technician in the Business Office is responsible for providing a full range of paraprofessional accounting services, including processing invoices, managing payables, and assisting with payroll functions. The role requires a high degree of independent judgment and initiative, as well as extensive knowledge of DOTD procurement and accounting policies. The incumbent will participate in training programs and continuing education to enhance their skills and performance.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, or numerical computation.
  • College training can substitute for required experience (30 semester hours = 1 year of experience).
  • An Associate Degree in Accounting, Accounting Technology, or Business can substitute for two years of experience.
  • Training in a vocational-technical school or military school in Accounting can substitute for up to one year of experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DOTD procurement policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with LaGov HCM/PTMW for payroll processing.
  • Proficiency in using Access and Excel for data management.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, prepare, and enter invoices from external vendors for payment on a daily basis.
  • Ensure accurate processing of all payables, including proper coding and budget allocation.
  • Audit expenditures prior to payment and confirm the validity of charges.
  • Reconcile invoice, goods receipt, and purchase order, processing payments within the ECC system.
  • Audit and reconcile vendor statements monthly, ensuring accuracy of payment activity.
  • Assist in reconciling a $26 million budget by recording expenditures accurately.
  • Prepare complex reports to assist Accounting Supervisors in budgetary information.
  • Maintain Petty Cash records and ensure compliance with guidelines.
  • Serve as a Timekeeper for various Gangs, ensuring accurate reporting of hours worked.
  • Review payroll packages for proper coding and compliance with policies.
