About The Position

The Accounting Supervisor at Virginia Tech oversees the accounting team in the Bursar's Office, ensuring accurate reconciliation of various funds and compliance with financial aid disbursement. This role involves preparing reports, analyzing Accounts Receivable data, and serving as a liaison between General Accounting and the Bursar's Office to facilitate daily revenue transactions. The supervisor also provides guidance to departments on revenue reporting and reconciliation procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent training and experience.
  • Accounting or reconciliation experience with knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting complex policies and procedures.
  • High comfort level with technology, including spreadsheet software for data analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in accounting or finance or a related field.
  • Experience in a higher education environment, especially in student accounts or financial aid.
  • Experience using Ellucian's Banner or another comparable ERP system.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local laws related to accounts receivable management.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of SQL or another structured querying language.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accounting team in the Bursar's Office.
  • Review reconciliation of various state and local funds, and Title IV aid program.
  • Work with the Financial Aid Office to ensure complete disbursement of financial aid funds.
  • Coordinate cash management and supervise aid billings to the Department of Education and the VT Foundation.
  • Prepare reports and track variances to aid management decision-making.
  • Analyze Accounts Receivable data for the Bursar's Office.
  • Establish and maintain AR detail codes and update percentage splits of comprehensive fee detail codes annually.
  • Assist departments with general receivables in the AR system regarding reporting and reconciliation procedures.
  • Serve as a resource for Bursar and departmental staff on related topics.
