About The Position

The County of Volusia is currently seeking an Accounting Supervisor-Medical Billing & Coding Supervisor. This position is highly responsible work supervising a team of medical billing and coding clerks and optimizing the revenue cycle process with strict emphasis on regulatory compliance and billing integrity.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting/bookkeeping or related field.
  • OR
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or closely related field.
  • A comparable amount of education, training, and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications if the following conditions are met: the comparable experience, training, and/or education has a direct relationship to the duties of the position.
  • Must not be excluded from participating as a health care provider in insurance programs including, but not limited to, Medicare and Medicaid prior to and during employment at the County of Volusia.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license at time of hire.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire and maintain thereafter.
  • Knowledge of ambulance transport documentation.
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD 10 codes.
  • Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of medical and ambulance coding and compliance.
  • Knowledge of medical billing software.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Skilled in the use of computers and associated software programs.
  • Ability to interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
  • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and standards.
  • Ability to supervise.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with public and other Departments/Divisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, support, and positively mentor a team of Medical Billing and Coding Clerks, ensuring efficient operations and adherence to department goals.
  • Ensure compliance with Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and that all ambulance transport claims are accurately coded on the front end in compliance with federal, state, and insurance company regulations.
  • Provide ongoing training through monthly coding clinics, Quality Assurance (QA) analysis reports, etc., and support to staff on coding and billing procedures, software, and regulations.
  • Monitor team performance and offer constructive feedback, helping to improve accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Review Medicare Fee for Service (FSS) claims and hospital to hospital transfers for accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct monthly QA reviews of patient transports and Patient Care Report PCR documentation, to help ensure documentation submitted for billing purposes is complete, accurate, and compliant.
  • Prepare performance evaluations for those employees under their supervision.
  • Analyze and resolve problems dealing with particular projects in a functional section.
  • Coordinates methods and procedures, improvements, and programs to foster greater productivity.
  • Implement programs with minimum supervision.
  • May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
