About the position

The Accounting Supervisor - Financial Reporting is a key member of the finance team supporting the organization in ensuring timely, complete and accurate presentation of financial activities in compliance with GAAP. Reporting to the Assistant Controller - Treasury, Cash Receipts & Financial Reporting, Accounting Supervisor - Financial Reporting will provide day-to-day management of designated Accounting staff, review of general ledger transaction processing, financial reporting and analysis, audit support, and implementation and maintenance of internal controls. Provides support on fiscal matters in accordance with Volunteers of America - Greater New York, Inc. policy and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provides guidance and monitors the daily performance of designated financial reporting staff, including Staff and Senior Accountants. Ensure work is completed timely and accurately in accordance with GAAP and agency policies.
  • Prepare standard journal entries for assigned business transactions and the month-end closing. Adhere to the monthly general ledger close calendar to allow for appropriate review by the Assistant Controller and/or Controller.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reporting and analysis and ad hoc reports.
  • Analyze and reconcile various general ledger and sub-ledger transactions and account balances monthly, including bank reconciliations, to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Participate in writing and reviewing internal policies and procedures.
  • Provide support for internal and external audit engagements.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of Volunteers of America-Greater New York policies and procedures to comply with regulations and safeguard agency assets.
  • Provide support on financial initiatives and projects, and perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and four years of relevant experience with at least one year of supervisory experience.
  • CPA license is desirable.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and FASB standards is required.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize work and perform duties with a high level of accuracy is required.
  • Have a collaborative work style and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite with strong Excel skills is required.
