About The Position

This position is not remote. The successful candidate will need to be able to report to the home office in Macon, GA on a daily basis. The essential duties include supporting senior accounting staff, which involves preparation of monthly and quarterly journal entries, general ledger analysis, and budget analysis/forecasting. The candidate will assist in preparing financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis in different formats required by company management, the state insurance department, and various regulatory agencies. Responsibilities also include reconciling balance sheet ledger accounts, maintaining capital assets and depreciation/amortization tables, preparing payroll and payroll tax entries, preparing Form 990 for not-for-profit, assisting with internal and external audits, and preparing GID reports and statistical filings as required by the Insurance Department and various agencies. The candidate is expected to find more efficient ways to improve manual processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of accounting
  • Technical aspects of account analysis
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheet programs
  • Experience with various data processing applications for accounting
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret procedures, regulations, instructions, manuals, and other documents
  • Excellent telephone, public relations, and oral/written communication skills
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
  • Basic computer skills, experience with Windows, word processing, and internet
  • 0-3 years of experience

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Form 990 preparation preferred
