Accounting Specialist – Accounts Payable Under minimal supervision, this position performs technical accounting work involving the review, analysis, preparation, and maintenance of complex financial records, systems, and reports. Assigned to the Accounts Payable section, the Accounting Technician plays a key role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of financial transactions that support OCTA’s operations. This is a non-exempt position in salary grade 155: Min – $28.88 | Mid – $34.50 | Max – $40.12/hour. The starting salary will be within this range based on qualifications. This posting will remain open until filled. What You’ll Do Reconcile fund accounts and vouchers payable to maintain accurate financial balances Solicit, review, and analyze year-end accruals from departments for accuracy and completeness Monitor contract balances, encumbrances, and third-party purchasing interfaces; research and resolve exceptions Process monthly wire transfers, purchasing card transactions, and accrued sales tax payments Review invoices for contract compliance, spending authority, pricing accuracy, and sales tax requirements Audit invoices for purchase order receipts, billing accuracy, and retention terms Review employee travel and reimbursement reports for policy compliance and proper authorization Maintain and reconcile accounting records; prepare adjusting journal entries Generate and distribute payments, checks, invoices, and billings Research, interpret, and respond to complex financial inquiries Maintain organized electronic and paper records, including document scanning What We’re Looking For High school diploma or GED Minimum of six years of experience preparing, maintaining, and reconciling financial records in an accounts payable environment Coursework in accounting or bookkeeping (preferred) Strong attention to detail and mathematical accuracy Ability to interpret complex financial information and apply policies and procedures Effective written and verbal communication skills Self-motivated with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment Why You’ll Love It Here Be a critical part of OCTA’s financial operations and fiscal accountability Work in a collaborative, professional environment that values integrity and accuracy Apply your technical accounting expertise to meaningful public-sector work Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and long-term career stability Join a team where innovation, integrity, and strategic thinking are valued.
