About The Position

The Accounting Specialist/Utility Customer Service role at the City of Post Falls involves providing effective customer service, processing accounts receivable, and performing general clerical and accounting support duties. The work is supervised by the Utility Billing Supervisor and Accounting Supervisor, allowing for some independent judgment in resolving customer issues.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalency, preferably supplemented with coursework in accounting or business applications.
• Two years of accounting, billing, or clerical experience, preferably in a municipal office position.
• Knowledge of standard office equipment and job-related software applications.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and learn department functions thoroughly.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming phone calls and greet walk-in customers, providing general information and answering inquiries.
• Assist customers with department procedures and resolve concerns.
• Process and receive payments, balance cash, and review billings.
• Research account status and payment history, making recommendations as needed.
• Prepare, distribute, and maintain various documents and records.
• Provide data entry services, typing, and filing in support of department functions.
• Record and balance daily and weekly revenue figures and prepare bank deposits.
• Process invoices and bills, preparing monthly payments and reconciling vendor statements.
• Verify billing information and ensure appropriate approval of invoices.
• Maintain files, logs, and other records, completing special research assignments as required.
