About The Position

The Accounting Manager at IHG is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the hotel, ensuring accurate accounting practices, and maintaining control over expenses, income, assets, and liabilities. This role involves managing lower-level accounting staff and collaborating with various departments to promote teamwork and quality service. The position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to perform financial analysis and reporting.

Requirements

  • Some college education plus 2+ years of hotel accounting or auditing experience, including management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to carry or lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
  • Problem-solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational, and training abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of computerized financial reporting systems and programs.
  • Experience in hotel accounting or auditing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Area Finance, Director of Finance, and/or Assistant Director of Finance with preparation of the Budget, Strategic Plan, and Goals program.
  • Perform or assist in the performance of month-end closing, including input and reconciliation of all income, preparation of reports, verification of Trial Balance, and running Financial Statements for management review.
  • Input General Ledger entries and journal vouchers as required, ensuring timely posting of daily transactions in accordance with accounting principles.
  • Maintain control over bookkeeping functions for the hotel, including preparation and review of information posted to subsidiary ledgers.
  • Prepare tax reconciliations, payments, reports, and investigations as needed, maintaining necessary records for tax balancing.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports in accordance with reporting calendars, ensuring timely submission.
  • Conduct financial and statistical analysis, forecasting, and complete special projects as needed.
  • Manage daily accounting activities, including operations and assignments of accounting staff, planning and organizing work, and communicating goals.
  • Participate in inventory taking and verification of extensions on a monthly basis, conducting monthly credit meetings and distributing minutes as needed.
  • Review and verify accounts payable and receivable processes, maintaining daily income reports and managing related duties.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through communication and coordination with other departments.
  • Audit payroll and supervise the Accounting department in the absence of the Assistant Director of Finance & Accounting.
  • Interact with guests to resolve billing disputes and answer questions, and with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with regulations and audits.
  • Ensure subordinate staff are properly trained and equipped to perform their job functions.
