About The Position

The Accounting Manager/Controller directs the establishment and maintenance of the organization’s accounting principles, practices, and procedures for the maintenance of its fiscal records and the preparation of its financial reports. Successfully leads the Accounting team and their related functions. Directs general and property accounting, cost accounting, and budgetary control. Appraises operating results in terms of costs, budgets, operating policies, trends, and increased profit opportunities. This position is responsible for providing accurate financials, reconcilements, assigned projects, audit responsibilities, and mentoring team members.

Requirements

  • Five to ten years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.
  • Advanced knowledge with Accounting software required. Experience with ALM modeling software strongly preferred.
  • Expert use of Microsoft Excel and Accounting Software required.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, applicable State and Federal regulations, primarily those of the Office of Thrift Supervision, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Federal Reserve Board and applicable association regulations (e.g., NACHA).
  • Knowledge of tax regulations and related activities.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations covering the management and retention of various types of records.

Responsibilities

  • Manages accounting day-to-day responsibilities and direct reports to maximize productivity, efficiency, and the potential of the human assets of the credit union including hiring, directing job assignments, monitoring staff performance, coaching, counseling, training, disciplining as necessary, assuring compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational mission, values, policies and work rules. Appraises performance and provides recommendations for staff compensation, promotion, and termination, as appropriate. Sets goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results and allocates talent resources appropriately.
  • Responsible for leading the Accounting team in the timely and correct processing of: EFT/ACH transactions, accounts payable, fixed assets, payroll posting, electronic payments, indirect lending, and ensure full compliance with GAAP and NACHA rules. Performs considerable short-term planning, scheduling, and coordinating within area of responsibly.
  • Manage GL reconciliation process to ensure accurate and timely general ledger postings, and direct research/corrections necessary. Coach and train team members to ensure all employees complete posting and reconciliations according to credit union policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and guide team members in preparing reports for the CCF Board of Directors, credit union departments, federal agencies, third party partners, and auditors.
  • Accurately produces monthly and quarterly reports on a timely basis. Prepares the monthly financial statements and call report. Prepares the monthly interest margin report, ratio reports, income statements, balance sheets and monthly budget variance reports for management and the Board of Directors. Manages the escheat processes for the credit union. Assists in the annual budget process. Prepares the collateral reports for the Federal Home Loan Bank.
  • Direct the development and monthly review of financials to ensure accurate and timely financial information is provided to management and the Board of Directors to effectively manage the operations and be accountable to its members and regulatory agencies.
  • Develops and maintains professional knowledge of and ability to understand and implement banking regulations and GAAP in the Banking industry.
  • Reviews, improves, and communicates methods and procedures to make daily operations more efficient. Reviews and recommends new third parties and their services, preparing reporting and due diligence to support credit union vendor management.
  • Develops and maintains professional knowledge of and ability to understand and implement banking regulations and GAAP in the Banking industry. Attends educational events that will increase professional knowledge and be otherwise beneficial to the Credit Union. Completes annual BSA/AML Compliance Training and understands team member’s role in maintaining an effective BSA/AML compliance program, and completes FACT Act Red Flag training.
  • Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Must be in full compliance with applicable FASB, OTS and SEC pronouncements and regulations, and FDICIA.
  • Develops and maintains professional knowledge of and ability to understand and implement banking regulations and GAAP in the Banking industry.
