About The Position

The Accounting Manager will oversee and supervise both corporate and property-level accounting functions, serving as a strategic leader within the accounting department. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of all financial records across both corporate entities and the property portfolio. The Accounting Manager will provide strategic leadership across both corporate and property-level accounting, with the understanding that, as the team grows, day-to-day oversight of one these areas may transition to a dedicated role. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of all financial records for the corporate entities and the property portfolio, while helping to define and refine responsibilities as the organization evolves. This position requires advanced proficiency in Yardi and Excel, with a demonstrated ability to lead and develop team members, streamline accounting processes, manage multiple priorities, and drive operational efficiencies across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team lead capacity; real estate industry experience highly preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Yardi Property Management Software; advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis, VLOOKUP)
  • Strong understanding of GAAP principles, accounting best practices, and internal controls
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and develop team members
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines; effective communicator with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments; strong analytical and critical thinking skills

Nice To Haves

  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license or working toward certification
  • Experience with Asana or similar project management tools
  • Experience in commercial real estate accounting
  • Exposure to consolidated accounting and intercompany transactions
  • Background in property management accounting

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and provide performance feedback to the Corporate Accountant and Property Accountants
  • Ensure team members maintain professional development and career growth opportunities
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to monitor performance, address concerns, and align on goals
  • Promote a collaborative, supportive team environment while maintaining accounting standards and compliance
  • Delegate accounting tasks appropriately and monitor completion of assigned work
  • Maintain and oversee accurate general ledger and sub-ledger accounts for corporate entities
  • Ensure preparation of and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Supervise account reconciliations and the resolution of discrepancies
  • Monitor accounts payable and receivable transaction processing
  • Track and manage corporate budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses
  • Oversee Yardi operations for intercompany billing and collection processes
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and corporate accounting policies
  • Maintain oversight of general ledger and sub-ledger accounts for assigned properties
  • Ensure preparation of and review monthly, quarterly, and annual property-level financial statements
  • Supervise CAM billing, collections, and annual CAM reconciliations using Yardi
  • Monitor tenant ledgers, leasing activity, rent rolls, and occupancy reporting
  • Track and manage property-level budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance for all property accounting activities
  • Review and approve corporate and property financial statements before submission to management
  • Use Excel to create and oversee detailed financial models, reports, and analyses
  • Develop comparative analysis of corporate and property performance
  • Provide management with timely, accurate financial reporting for decision-making
  • Support preparation of consolidated financial reporting across all entities
  • Coordinate annual audit and tax filing processes
  • Ensure preparation and timely submission of schedules, documentation, and audit inquiries
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP principles and accounting best practices
  • Monitor internal controls and recommend improvements to accounting processes
  • Stay current with accounting regulations and industry standards
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and enhance efficiency
  • Lead implementation of process improvements and system enhancements
  • Collaborate with operations, finance, and other departments to optimize workflows
  • Use project management tools such as Asana to maintain project timelines and team accountability
