About The Position

The organization is a rapidly growing broadband-focused cooperative dedicated to expanding reliable, accessible internet connectivity across Maryland. The team works to strengthen statewide broadband infrastructure, support local communities, and close the digital divide through strategic partnerships and high‑quality network operations. The Accounting Manager is a key hands-on role responsible for overseeing daily financial operations and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting. This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional with nonprofit (501(c)(12)) or regulated‑entity experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and a commitment to operational excellence. The role works closely with the VP of Finance and is positioned as a long‑term succession path to that leadership role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of experience in accounting or financial management.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, accrual accounting, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  • Experience in nonprofit, governmental, or regulated‑entity accounting strongly preferred.
  • Experience coordinating audits and working directly with external auditors.
  • Proficiency with accounting and CRM platforms such as QuickBooks Online and Salesforce.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
  • High ethical standards, strong attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must reside within one hour of the organization’s office in Salisbury, Maryland.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee general ledger management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and bank reconciliations.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including balance sheet reconciliations and account analysis.
  • Prepare and review journal entries in accordance with GAAP and accrual accounting standards.
  • Conduct internal audits of AP, AR, payroll, inventory reporting, asset depreciation, and other key financial areas.
  • Support preparation of monthly financial statements and internal management reports.
  • Ensure audit readiness and serve as the primary liaison for external auditors.
  • Implement, maintain, and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with organizational policies.
  • Support tax preparation and filing activities, ensuring timely and accurate compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Maintain fluency in nonprofit accounting standards, GAAP updates, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Maximize the functionality of accounting platforms to streamline workflows and enhance reporting.
  • Improve financial systems, processes, and internal controls in collaboration with the VP of Finance.
  • Assist in delegating and segmenting tasks with the fiscal coordinator to strengthen internal controls and operational efficiency.
  • Mentor and support accounting staff, fostering a collaborative, growth‑oriented environment.
  • Provide financial insight to support organizational stability and long-term strategic planning.
