About The Position

This position allows for 3 days per week remote / work from home. The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and efficient financial processes. The Accounting Manager supports budgeting, audit preparation, and grant reporting while supervising accounting staff as applicable. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of the organization and supporting its mission-driven work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting and fund accounting
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Experience with financial reporting and reconciliations
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • CPA license Required
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience
  • Experience managing grants and restricted funds

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
  • Ensure proper classification of restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Assist in preparing financial reports for leadership and the Board of Directors
  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance and provide variance analysis
  • Support preparation of reports for grantors and funders
  • Assist with annual independent audit and preparation of audit schedules
  • Support preparation of IRS Form 990 and other regulatory filings
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies
  • Track restricted grants and contracts
  • Monitor grant expenditures for compliance with funding requirements
  • Assist program managers with budget tracking and reporting
  • Supervise accounting staff (e.g., Staff Accountant, AP/AR Clerk) as applicable
  • Maintain accounting systems and recommend process improvements
  • Support implementation of financial software or system upgrades
