About The Position

The Accounting Manager is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of workers involved in calculating, posting, and verifying financial data to maintain accounting and statistical records. This role involves compiling composite reports for management and government agencies, supervising and participating in the preparation and auditing of materials, identifying and resolving accounting discrepancies, and communicating accounting policies and procedures to various stakeholders. The manager also determines work procedures, prepares schedules, expedites workflow, issues instructions, assigns duties, examines work for accuracy, and standardizes procedures to enhance team efficiency. Additionally, the role includes maintaining team harmony, resolving grievances, adjusting errors and complaints, performing clerical accounting tasks, ensuring timely and accurate tax filings, and maintaining knowledge of regulatory guidelines such as BSA/OFAC/AML/CTR laws. The position also carries out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or twelve to eighteen months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and financial services or credit union or management experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business correspondence including emails and procedures and effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, members, other departments, and vendors.
  • Ability to apply knowledge about business services and products and take initiative to build relationships, including identifying cross sell opportunities.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects at once, attention to detail and ability to drive execution and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, including the ability to read, analyze and interpret information, effectively present information and easily adapt communication style to different audiences.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to perform under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Must possess organizational skills and the ability to take responsibility and creatively find solutions.
  • Must have strong time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Compiles composite reports from individual reports of subordinates required by management or government agencies.
  • Supervises and participates in preparing and auditing materials requiring analyses of supporting documents and ensures that all entries are entered into the system properly.
  • Identifies and investigates accounting discrepancies, ensuring a timely resolution through appropriate corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Communicates and coordinates accounting policies, practices, and procedures with department and company managers and officials, vendors, reporting agencies, clients, members, and the public.
  • Determines work procedures; prepares work schedules; and expedites workflow.
  • Issues written and oral instructions.
  • Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and standardizes procedures to enhance team efficiency and workflow.
  • Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
  • Adjusts errors and complaints.
  • Performs clerical accounting tasks including data entry, invoice processing, and reconciliations.
  • Ensures the timely and accurate completion of tax-related filings and the maintenance of related records.
  • Knows the regulatory guidelines such as BSA/OFAC/AML/CTR laws, rules and regulations and maintains an acceptable level of knowledge, including all updates and changes of laws, rules, and regulations to sufficiently apply to all account activities.
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned.
  • Directly supervises employees in the Accounting Department.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
