About The Position

This position is responsible for managing payroll, staff accountant(s) and clerical staff. Supervises day-to-day operations of the accounting department, banking services, and general ledger functions. Works in tandem with the Accounts Payable Manager to ensure appropriate processes are followed that impact the Accounting department, and staff resources are allocated to the appropriate areas. Schedule and direct work assignments of clerical employees and staff accountants. Coordinates the completion of the month-end close and preparation of financial statements in a timely manner, including journal entry input. Maintain chart of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts. Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology. Advise in areas such as compensation, employee health care benefits, the design of accounting or data processing systems. Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs. Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice. Review departmental policies and procedures annually and update as needed Prepare annual 1099's timely and accurately. Assist with annual insurance renewals. Prepare and file welfare exemptions and business property statements. Coordinate filing of annual sales and used tax return, including data compiling. Coordinate filing of annual unclaimed property procedures and filings. Assist with Form 990 filing by compiling required schedules and data needed for submission. Participate in the preparation of the annual organization audit, cost reports, UDS, OSHPD and internal reports.

Requirements

  • Principles, practices and procedures of management and administration, including goal setting, program development, implementation and evaluation, and employee supervision.
  • Analytical and report preparation techniques related to Accounting practices.
  • Applicable laws, codes and regulations.
  • Preparing and directing the preparation of clear and concise staff reports, policies, procedures, correspondence and other written materials.
  • Five years' experience in Finance or Accounting.
  • Three to five years' experience in GAAP accounting.
  • Three years Managerial experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration.

  • Assisting in developing and directing the implementation of goals, objectives, and work standards for direct reports.
  • Ensuring that assigned departmental functions comply with applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinances, researching as necessary.
  • Overseeing the activities of the disbursement department, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, core employee expense reports, core payroll processing and total corporate payroll tax compliance.
  • Detecting possible weaknesses of internal control of standard accounting procedures and recommend revisions.
  • Reviewing appropriate ledger entries and reconciliations for all direct staff including accounts directly assigned to the Accounting Manager.
  • Assisting with preparation of monthly financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement and other assigned reports.
  • Coordinating and assisting with the annual budget process.
  • Conducting routine cash audits at all locations.
  • Hiring, training, supervising and retaining competent accounting staff.
  • Providing oversight for the year-end inventory count, compiling results for reporting.
  • Providing for the training and professional development of staff.
  • Verbally communicating accounting procedures and policies to staff and others.
  • Preparing memos/communications clearly and concisely.
