This position is responsible for managing payroll, staff accountant(s) and clerical staff. Supervises day-to-day operations of the accounting department, banking services, and general ledger functions. Works in tandem with the Accounts Payable Manager to ensure appropriate processes are followed that impact the Accounting department, and staff resources are allocated to the appropriate areas. Schedule and direct work assignments of clerical employees and staff accountants. Coordinates the completion of the month-end close and preparation of financial statements in a timely manner, including journal entry input. Maintain chart of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts. Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology. Advise in areas such as compensation, employee health care benefits, the design of accounting or data processing systems. Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs. Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice. Review departmental policies and procedures annually and update as needed Prepare annual 1099's timely and accurately. Assist with annual insurance renewals. Prepare and file welfare exemptions and business property statements. Coordinate filing of annual sales and used tax return, including data compiling. Coordinate filing of annual unclaimed property procedures and filings. Assist with Form 990 filing by compiling required schedules and data needed for submission. Participate in the preparation of the annual organization audit, cost reports, UDS, OSHPD and internal reports.
