About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our corporate finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting principles and a passion for accuracy and efficiency. As an Accounting Manager at Defense Unicorns, you will be responsible for various tasks including typical accounting functions such as accounts receivable, deferred revenue, accounts payable, expense management, and financial reporting.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of the close process.
  • Demonstrated success improving or automating accounting processes in a growing company.
  • Experience supporting external financial audits and preparing audit-ready workpapers.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets.
  • Efficient in managing workload and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or similar).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll entries, and month-end/year-end close.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate general ledger records and reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely preparation of financial statements in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, depreciation schedules, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Maintain internal controls and support ongoing improvements to accounting workflows.
  • Provide financial analysis, forecasts, budgets, and regular reporting to leadership.
  • Monitor cash flow, expenditures, and profitability metrics.
  • Support strategic planning with data-driven financial insights.
  • Prepare and manage audit deliverables, maintaining clear communication with external auditors.
  • Partner cross functionally with all departments to ensure financial accuracy and alignment across the organization.
  • Support implementation and optimization of accounting and ERP systems.
  • Maintain and develop accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.
