We’re hiring an Accounting Manager at our Corporate Headquarters in Columbia, MO , and we’re looking for someone who’s ready to grow with us, bring energy and drive to their work, and help us build the future of construction. The role of the Accounting Manager is to provide support to the Assistant Controller group and Management, which includes performing month-end close procedures and reviewing the work product of others, preparing and/or reviewing audit and review engagement requests, helping to obtain information and requests from other team members and departments, mentoring other team members, as well as performing special ad hoc projects and tasks.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of GAAP and the ability to research accounting matters, interpret the guidance and propose the appropriate accounting treatment
  • Be comfortable working independently and in a team environment
  • Be able to manage multiple projects with competing priorities and effectively manage multiple deadlines, be able to effectively prioritize the workload to ensure deadlines are met timely
  • Must have a desire to understand the details, have strong problem-solving skills, and be capable of identifying and proposing solutions to key stakeholders across departments
  • Be comfortable working in an open work environment and able to focus on the task at hand avoiding distractions
  • Must be organized and detail oriented
  • Must be a solid and effective communicator and be able to effectively document accounting processes and procedures
  • Have a strong desire to assist team members and effectively train others to ensure processes are followed
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a CPA is preferred
  • At least 8 years of progressive accounting experience required, preferably at least 2 years in public accounting and at least 3 years in industry
  • Prior people management experience, required
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and work on a computer

Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end and year-end close procedures and be available to assist other team members with their procedures or address their questions as needed
  • Direct the post-close integration of accounting functions for newly acquired entities, including chart of accounts mapping, internal control implementation, and the alignment of accounting policies to corporate standards.
  • Prepare and/or review audit and review engagement requests timely to help ensure support files are ready to go to the auditors in a timely manner
  • Effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines that may overlap one another and effectively prioritize tasks
  • Use technology and tools to help create efficiencies within the month-end close process
  • Cross-train and mentor new team members to integrate them into the accounting procedures
  • Maintain the process documents for the month-end and year-end close process ensuring they are up-to-date and available to support the training of new team members
  • Search for opportunities to help ensure accurate financial records, streamline current processes or identify new processes, and identify controls that could be implemented
  • Effectively communicate with Management on any challenges encountered and provide solutions to consider, be actively involved in the solution
  • May or may not be the direct supervisor of other team members
  • Support the Assistant Controller group and Management with ad hoc projects and requests
