Position Overview: The Accounting Manager uses accounting knowledge and professional judgment to accurately analyze and journalize accounting transactions. This role completes monthly accounting responsibilities and assists members of the accounting team when necessary. The Accounting Manager provides supervision to assigned accounting staff and ensures work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. The Accounting Manager communicates with team members to understand and resolve transaction variances and reconciles accounting records.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, related field, and/or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting/financial reporting experience (public accounting experience, preferred).
  • Experience supervising or mentoring staff.
  • Understanding of accounting principles and proper application.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products with emphasis in Excel.
  • Excellent prioritization and time management skills.
  • Skilled in managing deadlines in a dynamic work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or CPA certification, preferred.
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting/financial reporting experience (public accounting experience, preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Review journal entries and account reconciliations related to capital markets / secondary and servicing operations including, but not limited to, acquisition and valuation of mortgage servicing rights, mortgage-backed securities, repurchase agreements, TBA and Treasury securities used to hedge interest rate risk and the ongoing servicing of mortgage loans.
  • Verify accuracy of revenue & expenses related to capital markets / secondary and servicing operations (i.e., servicing fee revenue, cost of servicing, unrealized and realized gains and losses on hedging and trading securities, amortization and valuation of mortgage servicing rights, etc.).
  • Reconcile cash transactions to accounting records and forecast cash flows related to purchase of mortgage servicing rights, margin calls, settlement of hedging positions and various servicing advances, among others.
  • Design new and/or enhance existing processes and controls related to accounting for the above transactions.
  • Work independently to prepare and record journal entries for complex transactions.
  • Review or prepare monthly G/L account reconciliations, including those for complex balance sheet accounts.
  • Research G/L or other accounting discrepancies and collaborate with branch managers or other departments to facilitate timely resolution.
  • Ensure completion of month-end assignments in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Perform variance analysis of financial statement accounts.
  • Perform and understand complex balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Work with direct reports to establish performance goals and objectives for each year; monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
  • Complete additional general accounting duties or projects assigned by management.
