About the position

Join SEAKR Engineering, a leading-edge provider of advanced electronics for space applications. Pushing the boundaries of technology on a mission to change the world for the better from space. Seeking a strong skilled Accounting Manager who will oversee the completion of daily, weekly, and monthly accounting tasks including: accounts payable, sales/use tax reporting, employee expense reports, timecard checks, bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, shipping invoice reconciliations, and other account reconciliations. The Accounting Manager supports the financial close process. This position will oversee the Employee Travel Policy, review accounting entries to the ERP, and resolve discrepancies. This position will lead a talented team of accounting professionals to ensure established accounting policies and procedures are followed. This person will review the work of department staff and provide feedback. The Accounting Manager will demonstrate expertise in company-wide systems and processes, identify potential process improvements, and propose solutions. This person will work independently under the direction of the Controller.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the accounts payable cycle and supplier disbursements
  • Reviews supplier invoice processing for appropriate supporting documentation, approvals, and general ledger coding in accordance with SEAKR policies
  • Reviews account reconciliations, sales/use tax filings, and expense reports for accuracy and compliance
  • Reviews annual 1099 filings
  • Critically evaluates accounting transactions and determines appropriate financial reporting under GAAP
  • Supports Controller in month-end financial close procedures
  • Assists in audits, reviews, and assessments from external parties and parent company
  • Researches and resolves accounting and compliance questions
  • Independently identifies opportunities to improve company accounting practices, controls, efficiency and reporting
  • Recommends solutions
  • Reviews and revises SEAKR Training Guides and policies
  • Functions as a back-up for revenue recognition, month-end close activities, and customer invoice reviews
  • Manages special projects as assigned by executives and officers on time and with high accuracy
  • Supervises staff and delegates appropriately in accordance with experience and skillset
  • Trains staff on accounting procedures, policies or technical accounting topics
  • Supports career development for direct reports including setting goals and developing training plans
  • Reviews and evaluates performance, including recommending compensation increases and disciplinary action, as appropriate

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Masters in Accounting with at least 5 years of progressive accounting and people management experience
  • Ability to reconcile all balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), concepts, practices, theories and procedures
  • Familiarity with principals and application of ASC 606 Revenue Recognition
  • Ability to prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP, including balance sheet and income statement
  • Knowledge of software programs as they relate to accounting and reporting functions
  • Knowledge of intermediate MS Excel skills such as sorting, formatting, and inserting basic formulas
  • Understanding of internal controls
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Read, understand, and analyze information with a high attention to details
  • Ability to think critically, analyze a problem, and propose solutions
  • Ability to quickly learn new software systems, changes to laws, regulations, and new policies
  • Perform with good organization skills including prioritizing tasks, and managing multiple deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines; thrives in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent communication skills, using business English, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and professional word choice
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral, written, in-person, and remotely
  • Ability to maintain productive working relationships, including collaboration with others
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Significant analytical skillset, including accounting systems, and reporting tools
  • Hands on experience with ERP systems

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations, and Cost Accounting Standards is desired
  • Experience and skills in government contract accounting, manufacturing accounting, job costing, and SOX compliance are highly desired
