About The Position

The Accounting Manager plays a key role in ensuring financial accuracy across ARTISAN’s growing portfolio while fostering collaboration, accountability, and operational excellence. The position will collaborate closely with ARTISAN’s SVP of Accounting and ARTISAN’s 3rd party accounting company in maintaining accurate books and records of the various properties in ARTISAN’s portfolio. The Accounting Manager will also work with closely with other members with ARTISAN Management and Asset Management teams to maintain accurate financial activity and supervise others on the accounting team to complete all accounting work timely. Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in an accounting role – experience within the multifamily industry is preferred.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience is also required.
  • Graduate from a 4-year college with an accounting degree.
  • Proficiency in Excel and software-based accounting systems is required.
  • Candidates should be results-oriented and demonstrate ARTISAN’s Core Values through integrity, accountability, and teamwork.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Experience in AppFolio, Real Page, Entrata, or Yardi software is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise property management accounting team to make sure all monthly property financial statements are computed timely and accurately.
  • Address any significant variances to budget and analyze revenue and expense trends.
  • Calculate and complete accruals for expenses as needed.
  • Work with third party and Artisan accountants to complete all monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations and all annual financial schedules needed to support balances provided to auditors and tax accountants.
  • Maintain subsidiary schedules to track Prepaid Insurance and Accrued Real Estate taxes.
  • Review bank statements and bank reconciliations and address any stale-dated or incorrect reconciling items.
  • Work with SVP-Accounting to complete any property cash transfers needed to correct lender escrow activity.
  • Lead bi-weekly meetings with third party accountants and utility management provider Conservice to address open issues and assure accurate resolutions of challenges communicated during these meetings.
  • Work with corporate accounting team to coordinate accurate property billbacks for payroll, management fees, and other chargebacks, and process payments for these charges efficiently while understanding property cash positions.
  • Provide knowledge and procedural guidance to improve existing accounting practices and work with Asset Management team to transition responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Work with Construction Management team to record capital improvement and unit renovation activity on property financial statements and coordinate invoice payments consistent with lender and other fundings for these projects.
  • Provide accounting leadership on an upcoming transition to new property management and accounting software. Implement a mapping structure of existing financial activity into a new software platform, and develop procedures on a new workflow process, as needed.
  • Always represent the company in a professional manner.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
