About The Position

The Foreign Exchange (FX) Accounting team is responsible for managing global FX
results and providing FX guidance for new business initiatives and system
launches with FX implications. As Amazon operates in over 100 countries and
manages approximately 1,100 currency pairs, the FX team handles diverse and
complex FX matters, exposures, and system integrations.

The FX accounting team is looking for an Accounting Manager to perform certain
monthly close duties and serve as a subject matter expert on FX accounting
matters for cross-functional business stakeholders. This role will work with
various accounting business teams (AWS, digital, store, payments, advertising,
international accounting team, etc.) to understand each business initiative,
assess FX implications, and provide FX requirements to avoid creating future
technical debt.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a complex, high-growth environment,
collaborating with teams such as accounting, Treasury, Tax, technology, and
Corporate Reporting to provide FX guidance on projects involving FX
implications. Strong oral and written communication skills are crucial, as well
as the ability to think clearly, analyze quantitatively, problem-solve, scope
business requirements, and prioritize.

Requirements

• 5+ years of finance or a related analytical field experience
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
• Knowledge of GAAP research tools and the FASB codification
• Knowledge of internal control framework (specifically COSO) to assess control design and operational efficiency
• Experience researching and documenting support for accounting conclusions
• Experience in creating process improvements with automation and analysis
• Experience with Oracle, Essbase, TM1 and similar tools

Nice To Haves

• CPA
• Experience in accounting management in Big Four with Fortune 500 clients
• Experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools (examples: SQL, MS Access, Essbase, Cognos) and other financial systems (examples: Oracle, SAP, Lawson, JD Edwards)
• Experience with documenting accounting conclusions

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary FX accounting expert, providing guidance and requirements to accounting and technology teams
• Conduct US GAAP research to assess FX accounting implications for business initiatives as needed
• Perform monthly close activities including reconciliations and journal entries
• Drive continuous process improvements in monthly close processes
• Support financial reporting processes and ensure accurate FX accounting treatment
• Research technical accounting issues and coordinate with the technical accounting team to develop and document accounting position papers as needed
• Partner with diverse business teams to understand new initiatives and assess FX implications
• Provide proactive FX guidance on projects to prevent future technical accounting challenges
• Escalate risks and issues to leadership with appropriate context and recommendations
